SOMEWHERE UNDER THE RAINBOW.....
Hard to believe it has been nearly a month since we unpacked here at The Lake.
We like it a LOT but the month has been one of hard work, frustration and - hard work.
First there was the matter of overgrown bushes blocking our view of the water. My cousin and her husband Gary helped us cut them all down and pile them up - a mighty job and we were so grateful for their help. We just today got the last of the pile to the dump. Here you can only use the dump, aka transfer site, on Wednesday afternoons and Saturday mornings. They are struct enforcers of the recycle bible so cans, glass etc are all subject to separation and scrutiny.
The next area of frustration has been Pat's knees - and also some 4-5 bruised ribs he got when he fell off the back of his truck while loading the above brush. The fall also caused his right knee to join his left knee in excruciating pain. So let's just say he has been physically challenged this month.
We picked up our boat last week - thanks once again to Gary who borrowed a long flat bed trailer to carry the rail system and winch which came with it. What we didn't know before picking it all up was that the rail system weighed in at about two tons.
Pat gamely helped get it loaded, unloaded, and then earlier this week, Gary once again came to the rescue with his expertise in getting the rail system installed and the winch solidly bolted to the boat ramp. Now we can electrically pull the boat from the water. We are patiently waiting for the welder to fix the axles and wheels on the 40' dock so we can get it in the water.
Frustration extraordinaire would be Lowes Carpeting Department. They sent the wrong carpeting. Then it was reordered and we waited and waited only to find out that the replacement was also wrong. So back we go to Lowes this week where they told us to pick carpeting from another mill which should be here this Friday. We have stuff piled up on our sunporch and in the garage 'til the carpeting is installed. They did a great job on the kitchen laminate and on the bathrooms. So - hope springs eternal!
I have been painting the base coat on every conceivable faux wood item in the place.
I am not even close to being finished - and that doesn't count the next two coats of semi-gloss!! And the walls!!
The contrractors have been doing a good job. They left for two weeks to finish up another job and said they would return in another week and will stay until ours is finished. I am looking forward to that!!
Max The Dog has been trying hard to adjust to being a Lake Dog. He is not used to cars going by our house...in Georgia a car coming up the driveway was a big deal and he was duty-bound to protect us. Here he has a hard time protecting us from all THESE cars! Until we get our fencing up we have to watch Max like a hawk so he won't be a FLAT lake dog.
We love sitting on the deck watching the water, the boats and other lake craft.
We love the cool breezes and low humidity.
We love the friendliness of the neighbors and people we have met.
We love Diane's and The Duck Stop for breakfast.
We love Lickety Split for our soft ice cream cone fixes!
We are looking forward to Livin' At The Lake - August Edition - a shorter volume since Pat needs to fulfill his work obligation for three weeks starting August 4th!
