SO...LEMME TELL YOU ABOUT MY OPERATION....
Don't worry. Nothing gory! I had my #1 Cataract Surgery on Monday.
I entered River Hospital, on the shore of the St. Lawrence River at 11:20am. That's when they said to present myself. I left the complex at 4pm. The procedure itself took about 7-8 minutes tops. The rest of the time was waiting. Waiting to register, then to have my name called, then for the IV nurse, then for the anesthesiologist...and then...yahoo! My turn! I was #14 of 21 that day. Hitch a ride on the Cataract Train ! One gurney after another snaking their way into the operating room. Please have your check ready as you depart the waiting room! Just kidding. Or not. Now to the details. The doctor saw me briefly before he began and slapped a blue ink mark above my right eye. That's the One, doc! As they wheeled me in for my turn, all I could see was bright lights. I had some relaxation juice but was quite awake and aware, and could follow his directions. "Don't move your eye at ALL...keep your eye on the bright light at ALL times. You are doing great.... (aside to a student) See, we line up the #5s on each side...almost finished...great!" That was that. There was a lot of liquid flushing during the procedure. No pain. Not at all. I peeked when they were giving me juice and cookies in the recovery room and THERE IT WAS!!! The clock in CLEAR VIEW! A MIRACLE!!! That was Monday and this is Wednesday and my vision is still so wonderful! I can't believe it! I have to wait til a week from this Monday to get ole leftie done and I can't wait! Wouldn't it be amazing if I end up with 20/20
vision?? I am in total awe of what my Dr. did for me. When my Mom had the same surgery in the late 60's she had a visible cut on her eye and wore glasses about an inch thick. Now they implant the lens, with no stitches, and most patients don't need glasses except for reading.
I have worn glasses since 4th grade and hated every second I had them on. So I say HALLELUJAH!!!! HERE'S LOOKING AT YOU!
