AT LAST - THE TOMATOES!!

Just when I thought there was not a chance in the world that the green globes on the two tomato plants outside the window would EVER turn red - along comes a week of hot humid weather here - and voila! We have inhaled the first three picked and as I always say - there is NOTHING better than a big fat REAL tomato.

I have added up the cost of my garden: 1 old skiff, 6 bags of soil, 1 bag of fertilizer, 15 packages of seeds from various Ebay sellers (esoteric seeds for chocolate cherry tomatoes, golden yellow tomatoes, snow peas, purple beans, etc) two Big Boy plants from Lowe's = rough estimate total $85.00. Now for the harvest estimates: two meals of snow peas, 4 meals of purple string beans, no esoteric plants survived, 20 tomatoes from the Lowe's plants. All bets are off here for the watermelon vines.

You do the math. Next year when I start blogging about my garden someone please email me and tell me for the love of all that is good, just buy the veggies at a farm stand. The only way growing your own might pay off is if you can get your hands on an acre of land. Dinky is as Dinky does!
