MORE KNOWLEDGE OF PAULA DEEN THAN ANYONE WANTS TO KNOW
This past weekend Pat and I had to do a quick run south to Savannah for a bank retreat. We left Friday after putting Max in dog jail and arrived about 530pm. What should have been a 6 hour journey was extended because someone had the bad luck to lose their expensive RV to a fire on I-75. During the ensuing traffic jam we traveled 1 mile in 56 minutes. Lots of time to contemplate life's mysteries - or your navel. ANyway, back to the retreat. When Pat left for the meeting rooms for the day, I signed on to what was called THE PAULA DEEN TOUR. I thought it might be fun - maybe some cooking tips, etc and a visit to her famous restaurant LADY & SONS.NOT! First of all there weren't quite enough people to qualify for a party room at her restaurant. Second, there was construction near her restaurant so we couldn't even DRIVE by it! We were handed off to her brother's place -BUBBA'S by the river. From 945am to 230pm we were treated to EVERY KNOWN FACT REGARDING PAULA DEEN - AND SOME NOT SO WELL-KNOWN. "This is the Wal-Mart where Paula buys her blouses for her programs", "This is the store where Paula bought that white table on her show", "This is where Paula buys her produce" (and we were urged to get off the bus and go peruse this small and I might add expensive, produce place)."This is where Paula rented when she moved to Savannah", "This is the first house Paula bought in Savannah", "This is the medical building where Paula sold her bagged lunches", "This is where Paula buys her kitchen supplies", etc. I said to my seatmate that I was fully expecting to be driven by Paula's gynecologist. Maybe even unload the bus for a quick Pap. Sheesh.
I do have a souvenir PAULA DEEN insulated LUNCHBOX...and the first person who says they want it - it's yours. Savannah is a neat place to visit - but I would recommend doing it sometime OTHER than the summer.
