ROW ROW ROW MY BOAT.....
Don't you LOVE Craigslist?
I do...I love snooping around seeing what people are trying to sell or give away. A few weeks ago I had this vision of something I wished I could have, so I put an ad on Craigslist.
"WANTED. OLD LEAKY WOODEN BOAT TO USE FOR GARDEN PLANTER. WILL PAY UP TO $25."
Almost right after I submitted the ad I got a few responses! Last Saturday Pat and I drove to the other side of the Point to claim my prize! It is an old wooden skiff, a two seater, with heavy rope trim outlining the top. Her(boats are all "her", right?)paint is peeling away in layers. This boat ain't going anywhere!
Well, actually that's not true. She will "sail" around to the front yard where I will sand her down, do some painting, and then find a way to plant flowers and veggies inside her!
Someone suggested filling the bottom with packing peanuts and then some soil. Another suggested using hay and then form little pockets and place pots in the pockets. I am still thinking about the logistics...hmmmm....visualizing a large dumptruck pulling up next to my little boat....
I have found some seeds for weird varieties of vegetables that I hope will grow -
Chocolate Tomatoes, Purple String Beans, and a strange little tomato plant which is described as bearing fruit so small that 4 of its tomatoes will fit on a quarter.
In the spring my gardening vibe is so optimistic. I am picturing harvesting buckets of lush lettuce, juicy tomatoes....gorgeous bushy showy flowers. The reality of my gardening skills is leggy petunias, zinnias with gray leaves, tomato worms the size of a VW Bug. Hopefully this summer will be different! I am thinking positive thoughts!
Meantime - I need a name for the boat. Suggestions??
